Build life-changing relationships
By Dr. Abiodun Mustapha, 2026-09-03
There are 3 categories of people you should have around your life: Mentors, Sponsors, and Associates. While most people in the first two categories are older than you, many in the third category will be your peers. You need co-growing peers whose ideas and learning can catalyse your growth and goals.
Recently, I started thinking about how some Professors get recommended as external examiners by Departments. While some come strongly because they are authorities in the field, some have come from their mentees, while others have come from associates who are peers of the decision-makers. It can be so profitable sometimes to have peers who you stay connected with as you grow in your industry.
They may just be a voice in that room that matters. - Stay in touch and have profitable discussions. - Offer them mutual opportunities. - Invite them into conversations that profit them. - Bring them into what you are doing (research, initiatives, and goals)
There are even more you can do innovatively.
Keep winning, Your Excellency.
